The Johnny Boots Margarita
Fresh juices make the Margarita
1.5 oz Blanco Tequila, use 100% agave tequila
0.75 oz Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice
0.75 oz Simple Syrup (1:1 ratio)
Splash of Water
Rim of Kosher Salt or Tajin Chili Seasoning.
Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker, shake vigorously until well mixed and strain over glass of your choice. I prefer a rocks glass with ice and rimmed with Tajin Seasoning.
Always use fresh juices when making cocktails, it's the difference between a good cocktail and a great cocktail. It's well worth the time and effort.
Rim with either Kosher Salt or Tajin Chili Seasoning. Salt is traditional but somewhat boring. Do not use iodized salt, use Kosher Salt. Tajin is preferred as it looks great, compliments the drink exceptionally well and adds a splash of color that augments the green tinged lime.
For the Simple syrup; again, make it fresh. Use a 1:1 ratio of Sugar to Water. Heat ingredients in a sauce pan until sugar dissolves. If you want an added touch, steep some orange peel in the simple syrup for 30 minutes. It'll add a touch of color and a subtle citrus flavor.

If you noticed a theme with this cocktail...it's FRESH. When possible, always use fresh ingredients, even with something seemingly easy like a simple syrup. Factory made juices and syrups tend to oxidize as they sit on shelves and you can taste it. Fresh juices make a drink excitingly vibrant. Even simple syrup sold on grocery store shelves tastes bland and stale compared to a freshly made simple. If you steep citrus or hibiscus in it prepare to have your mind blown.
